To compete at the highest level of competition fishing, organisation, timing, precision, confidence and knowledge are very important attributes and are key parts of my plan to achieve my goals, both before and during a competition. However, for me there is attribute which stands head and shoulders above all others and that is security. Being secure with my decisions bleeds into everything I do and is reinforced in the tackle that I use.
From the finest of details, such as hook and line choice, to choosing which rod and reel combines to create the perfect set up, all decisions have to be made with clarity, secure in the knowledge that they can make a difference. A difference that can result in a few extra fish, which is often all it takes to top the podium.
In competition fishing, where the level of angling ability is becoming increasingly high, key elements such as security are what separates the best from the rest. Be secure and everything else will follow through!
